Third in a series of three for the West Africa Project
Artist’s statement about the piece:
This image depicts the sheer joy and relief after having traversed the difficult and often harsh landscapes of the wilderness, to finally arrive in the promised land. Walking sticks can be cast aside as new energy to leap over the rocks replaces the tired, worn bodies that carried the cares and burdens of this life.
Creating the last canvas was a genuine time of worship for me as I felt what the figures in the painting must be feeling as at last, after their arduous journey, they came upon the cool waters of refreshment in a garden of rest, spying the outstretched arms of Jesus.
